I had Cousins That Were Vietnam Veterans & around 1970 my Uncle & Aunt were meeting their Son at the Trenton,NJ Train Station coming Home from Multiple Tours & They saw Hippies & Protestors hanging around- So he called my Dad & His 4 Brothers to come to the Train Station, They Did & Not A Single Hippie Protestors Threw Anything or Said a Word, because they knew they would catch a beating of a Lifetime & I am Sure my Dad & Uncles were Verbal with Clear & Direct Warnings

I highly doubt the throwing food at him story. Those stories have been greatly disproven as bs and no urine or blood was thrown at soldiers. Majority of these guys were drafted and held responsible for the wrong doings of a few, and some of those out of pure frustration of the situation. Randomly flown home, not making the trek back together with comrades to decompress like the WW2 soldiers. To come home after doing your patriotic chore to this reception is unforgivable, I pray it never happens again to our brave brothers & sisters who answered our nations call. The decisions of bureaucrats and media should never be used to judge these true Americans.

My dad was in the 173rd, green beret on a SOG team, hes 81 now and still rarely talks about it. He has seen some shit, ran away from his home in england when he was 15 joined the French foreign legion, deserted that in Africa, became a mercenary in the fucking Congo, got turned in by a missionary, and the options of jail forever or join the military and go to Nam. Won’t talk about any of the numerous scares from them aside from oh shrapnel, knife, got hit with weapon butt stock thats why his nose is a little flat. We have been trying for decades to get him to either write memiors, get a writer to interview him, anything but he wont talk about it really.
They were in class with the Australian’s. Both learning.
