The americans who went abroad or refused service and went to prison were the only ones free from the curse of being a killer of innocents. Ho chi min yried to get american support after ww2. But american gov favored french colonial claims. If we had just followed our constitutional philosophy we wouldnt have been drawn into that morass. We killed millions of Vietnamese who just wanted to throw off colonial occupiers. Just like we kicked the englush to the curb in 1776. We still owe Vietnamese people an apology.
I didn’t think people should have judged men who fought in Vietnam so harshly. They were just following orders. They weren’t the ones planning tho war or strategy. In this country, Communists were just as vilified here as Americans were in North Vietnam.

I dont argue whether or not we should have been in Vietnam, the soldiers went there because they were ordered to , they did their duty. Their treatment upon return to the US was shameful. Despise the ones who sent them there not the people doing their duty.
